Hebrides Fish ’n’ Trips - The Skipper and The Boat
Your skipper will be Lewis Mackenzie, an islander who has 24 years commercial sea fishing experience, a keen scuba diver and an expert sea angler, who will be happy to provide tuition to anyone who wants to try sea angling for the first time. Lewis has a detailed knowledge of the coast of East Lewis and its history and folklore and will do his best to tailor your charter to what you want to see and do and learn about. Lewis has a Seafish Industry Authority Inshore Skippers qualification which is commercially endorsed by the MCA for charter operations.
Hebrides Fish ‘n’ Trips uses an XS650 RIB which is a modern design of vessel perfectly suited to coastal cruising, inshore angling survey work, safety cover or photography / filming. The boat is new for 2012 and has been custom built for passenger comfort and safety. The boat's fuel efficient 150 hp Mercury engine gives a cruising speed of 15 knots, allowing considerable distance to be covered even on a 2 hour trip. Lower running costs mean that charges have been kept to a minimum but you will appreciate that the high cost of fuel in the Outer Hebrides has unfortunately to be included in the cost of charter.
The boat is certificated by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and fully licensed (Cat 4) and insured for 6 people. Stringent safety requirements are fully adhered to – which means in turn that guests will always be required to wear the lifejackets provided and listen carefully to the safety briefing which your skipper will give at the start of your charter.
